Why we chose lavender.

lavender in skincare

There are a hundred scents you could choose for a body butter. Most of them have something to recommend them, and most of them have something to apologise for. We chose lavender, and we chose it carefully.

Lavender is a scent that registers without overwhelming. Pulled too far, it can feel medicinal — soap, hospital, grandmother’s drawer. Pulled too far the other way, it disappears entirely under shea and oil. The version of lavender we wanted is the version you don’t notice until a beat after you’ve applied it: a soft, settled note that says calm without performing it.

The variety we use is LAVANDULA ANGUSTIFOLIA — true English lavender oil, distilled from the flowering tops. In the formula, it sits at a low, considered level. Enough to scent. Never enough to dominate.

Why scent in body care at all? Because skincare is something you do with your senses, not just your skin. The fragrance you choose changes how the ritual feels. A bright, citrus body cream wakes you up. A heavy floral can sit in a room for hours. A soft lavender does something quieter: it marks the start of an evening, or the close of one, without asking anything of you.

Practically, lavender in a body butter does the work of a fragrance — softening the mineral note of magnesium chloride, balancing the richer notes of shea and jojoba, and tying the formula together into something that feels designed rather than assembled.

We tested heavier and lighter versions before settling on this one. The heavier dosages felt like perfume — present in the room twenty minutes later. The lighter ones felt like nothing. The current level is what a slow-ritual product should be: scent as company, not statement.

If you’ve ever lived with a heavily-scented body product and wished it would just settle, you’ll recognise what we were after. And if you’ve never thought about scent in skincare at all, this is the way to start: with something quiet.

Lavender, the way we mean it, isn’t a feature. It’s a tone.

A scent made to settle.

Magnesium Body Butter — softly scented with true English lavender. Designed to register without overwhelming.
